The Kawachi Wisteria Garden was established in 1977 and has a history of over 30 years. Its beautiful scenery has earned it a spot among the world’s top ten scenic wonders and it is also the number one tourist attraction in Kitakyushu. The owner has planted up to 22 varieties of wisteria trees—including lipstick wisteria, blue wisteria, and white wisteria—totaling 150 trees across the garden’s vast 3,000 tsubo (approximately 10,000 square meters) area. These trees bloom from late April to mid-May every year. The dreamy wisteria blossoms spread out in large, vibrant patches, creating a breathtaking sight and making it a renowned wisteria viewing spot in Japan. Among the most popular attractions is the grand wisteria trellis spanning a thousand tsubo, where wisteria flowers of various colors filter sunlight into a kaleidoscope of hues. Walking through the tunnel feels like stepping into a dream.
