The Kawachi Wisteria Garden was established in 1977 and has a history of over 30 years. Its stunning scenery has earned it a spot on the list of the world’s top ten most beautiful sights, and it is also the number one tourist attraction in Kitakyushu. The owner has planted as many as 22 varieties of wisteria, including Lipstick Wisteria, Blue Wisteria, and White Wisteria, totaling 150 plants, across a vast 3,000 tsubo (approximately 10,000 square meters) garden. These bloom from late April to mid-May each year, with the dreamy wisteria flowers exploding in large, vibrant displays that leave visitors in awe, making it a renowned wisteria viewing destination in Japan. The most popular attraction is the expansive thousand-tsubo Great Wisteria Trellis, where different colored wisteria blossoms filter sunlight into a kaleidoscope of hues. Walking through the tunnel feels like stepping into a dream.
