Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Complex

President Ho Chi Minh was born on May 19, 1890, and passed away on September 2, 1969. UNESCO described him as "a man who devoted his whole life and energy to the cause of national liberation and the Vietnamese people." To honor this great leader, the Vietnamese government and people constructed the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh’s Residence, One Pillar Pagoda, and the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Hall, collectively known as the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Complex.

The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is the final resting place of President Ho Chi Minh. According to his will, his body was to be cremated and his ashes buried on the hills of the North. However, so that he could "witness" Vietnam's full reunification and to allow people to remember the great historical figure, the then Vietnamese government decided to preserve his body, leading to the construction of the mausoleum. The Presidential Palace is located to the right of the mausoleum. Originally built as the Governor-General's Palace of Indochina in 1901 by French colonists, it features a typical French architectural structure and style. Taken over by the Vietnamese government in 1954, it is now mainly used for high-level diplomatic meetings. Ho Chi Minh’s Residence is where he lived and worked during his lifetime. The interior is extremely simple and unadorned, with a tranquil environment—only by strolling through can you feel Ho Chi Minh’s modest way of life. The One Pillar Pagoda, located behind the mausoleum, was first built in 1049 and has many local legends surrounding its construction. The Ho Chi Minh Memorial Hall resembles a giant lotus flower, standing 20 meters tall with three levels. Inside, it houses items used by Ho Chi Minh during his life as well as 2,000 documents, showcasing his life and revolutionary endeavors.
