Introduction

Raffles Hotel was built in 1887 by the Sarkies brothers, wealthy Armenians. Since then, this iconic hotel embodying Singapore’s colonial-era architecture has attracted a large number of visitors. Writers such as Somerset Maugham, Rudyard Kipling, and Charlie Chaplin have all stayed here. The hotel museum displays records of notable guests who stayed here, letters they wrote to the hotel, as well as colonial-era luggage tags and travel guides. The Jubilee Hall is a theater recreating the style of the late Victorian era, with velvet curtains, comfortable seating, and exquisite decorations—all worth seeing.
