Sultan’s Old Palace

Introduction

The Sultan’s Old Palace, now known as the Malay Heritage Centre, is located in the Kampong Glam ethnic cultural district along with Arab Street and Sultan Mosque. It showcases the history, lifestyle, and cultural heritage of Singapore’s Malay community in Kampong Glam.

The palace was built in the 19th century by Sultan Ali, the son of Sultan Hussein. During the colonial period, to facilitate governance over the Malay population, the British government allowed Malay sultans and nobility to maintain palaces and residences here. The present building has been converted into a museum with nine exhibition galleries. It also houses shops, a performance square, an auditorium, and a food court.     Transport
