Victoria Memorial Hall

Introduction

Victoria Memorial Hall was built in memory of Queen Victoria of England. It was completed in 1905 and officially opened by Governor Sir John Anderson. The memorial hall is located at Empress Place, adjacent to the Victoria Concert Hall. After renovation in 1978, it serves as a venue for symphony orchestra performances. Between the Victoria Theatre and the Victoria Memorial Hall stands a clock tower approximately 53.4 meters high, topped with a crown-shaped spire. At the top of the clock face, five bronze bells hang, producing loud chimes. The clock face has a diameter of 4 meters and weighs 1 ton. In front of the memorial hall there is also a statue of Sir Stamford Raffles, identical in form to the one by the riverside, except that this bronze statue is black and was built in 1887.
