The Parliament House of Singapore

Located in Singapore's Central Business District, the Parliament House faces the country's largest financial hub, Raffles Place, across the Singapore River. It is a landmark cultural building in the area and one of the must-visit sites for foreign tourists.

In the 1980s, the number of Members of Parliament in Singapore increased from 51 in 1963 to 75, and the office space in the old Parliament House became increasingly tight. In 1989, then Deputy Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong proposed the construction of a new Parliament House. The proposal was unanimously approved, and design and construction quickly commenced, with the building completed and put into use in September 1999. The Parliament House is majestic and was personally designed by the late Ong Teng Cheong, Singapore's first elected president. The top of the building features a prism-like structure that gives a modern twist to the traditional dome shape, exuding solemnity and dignity.

Meanwhile, the old Parliament House has been transformed into an "Arts House" that hosts a variety of modern visual arts, films, music, dance, and theatrical performances. It attracts numerous renowned actors for performances each year and is also one of the popular destinations for tourists.
