CHIJMES

CHIJMES (formerly Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus) is located on Victoria Street in Singapore’s central business district and is one of the city’s most important historical landmarks, as well as one of the few remaining convents in the world.

Originally a Catholic church, it was later converted into a girls’ school and eventually renovated into the current complex, which now houses a variety of commercial functions such as dining, shopping, and entertainment, along with features like music performances, theatrical productions, and wedding ceremonies. The site consists of Caldwell House and the Chapel. Caldwell House, built in 1840, has been transformed into an art gallery, while the Chapel, commonly known as CHIJMES Hall and built in 1904, serves as a multi-purpose venue. Both buildings have been designated as national monuments. CHIJMES exudes a distinct European charm, featuring classic Gothic architecture that creates an elegant and serene atmosphere reminiscent of an old European convent. It attracts photography enthusiasts and tourists from around the world every year.
