The Myanmar Jade Buddha Temple is located in Novena, in the central region of Singapore. Built in 1875, it is the oldest and most magnificent Burmese temple in Singapore. The original Jade Buddha Temple was founded by a Burmese man named Tani, while the current temple was newly constructed in 1991. The temple reflects the beauty of traditional Burmese architectural style on a modern structure and stands as a source of pride for the Burmese community in Singapore.

Currently, the Jade Buddha Temple serves as both a religious and social hub for the Burmese community in Singapore. It is also commonly used for weddings and birthday celebrations. The Myanmar Jade Buddha Temple is the most magnificent Burmese temple outside of Myanmar. The temple has four floors and was built brick by brick from scratch. The beauty of traditional Burmese architecture and art is reflected in the temple’s layered wooden eaves and the wood carvings both inside and outside the temple. These carvings were crafted by Burmese artisans using the finest Burmese teak wood, featuring intricate wood carvings and decorative ceiling patterns that embody the rich essence of Burmese architectural style.

The temple houses a massive marble seated Buddha, which was brought to Singapore from Myanmar in 1921. With delicate and gentle lines, the seated Buddha stands 11 feet tall and weighs 10 tons, making it the largest seated Buddha in any temple outside of Myanmar.
