Alkaff Bridge

Alkaff Bridge is located at Robertson Quay in Singapore’s Central Business District. It is a pedestrian bridge that spans the Singapore River and was opened to the public in 1998. Known for its bold, vibrant, and bright appearance, it is locally referred to as “Singapore’s bridge of art.”

The bridge has a steel truss structure and resembles a large wooden sailing ship. It is 55 meters long and weighs 230 metric tonnes. Originally a rather dull-colored bridge, it is now colorful thanks to the unique artistic decoration done by Filipino artist Pacita Abad and her assistants. In 2004, Pacita and her team used 52 colors and over 900 litres of paint to give the bridge a dazzling appearance. Pacita believed her artistic masterpiece would remain stylish for the next five years, allowing Singaporeans to enjoy it fully.

The new look of Alkaff Bridge was widely welcomed by the public. They found the refreshed bridge cool and candy-like—like biscuits—which added a lot of vibrant color to the Singapore River.
