Arab Street

Arab Street is a very old street in Singapore. There are two explanations for its name. The first says that this area was once the territory of an Arab merchant and was later named Arab Street. The second says that Sir Stamford Raffles wanted to designate the area as government land, but many Arab and Bugis people lived here, so he had to let the area remain as a place for trade and residence for the merchants and residents.

It is well known that Arabs were among the earliest peoples to engage in commercial activities in Singapore. They not only brought goods here, but also their religious beliefs and lifestyle customs. Arab Street is very clean and distinctive, with shops lining the entire street selling carpets, textiles, specialties, handicrafts, and local snacks. It is said that you can find some of the best Muslim cuisine here, offering visitors a treat for the taste buds. Walking along Arab Street, you can experience the Middle Eastern charm of Arab, Haji Lane, and Baghdad styles. The famous Sultan Mosque is also located on the street, allowing visitors to learn about the lifestyles and customs of Muslims.
