Kranji Racecourse

Opened on March 4, 2000, Kranji Racecourse was established and is operated by the Singapore Turf Club. Located in the northern part of Singapore, about twenty kilometers from the city center, it covers an area of 81.2 hectares. The racecourse combines the best features of top-class tracks around the world. Its track is excellently designed, making it an ideal venue for champion horses to compete.

The Kranji Racecourse track features a Tapeta (sand-based) surface with a sand base layer and a top layer planted with El-Toro Zoysia grass, a patented variety developed by the University of California. Extensive testing and experiments have proven that this grass provides excellent elasticity, making it highly suitable for horse racing. Despite Singapore’s high rainfall, the sandy base effectively drains water, keeping the track surface in optimal condition year-round. The oval-shaped track is 2,000 meters long and races are run in a left-handed direction. With a distance of 31 meters between the inner and outer rails and a straightaway stretching 400 meters, every horse has a fair chance of winning. Additionally, the ground inside the final bend is slightly banked, and the final straight has a gentle uphill gradient of one meter, often leading to more thrilling and competitive finishes.

Renowned worldwide, Kranji Racecourse features grandstands that overlook both the city and the runners approaching the track. With its ivory-colored roof and extensive glass panels, spectators enjoy clear views of the entire exciting event. The venue regularly hosts a series of domestic races as well as two major national events: the Singapore Airlines International Cup and the KrisFlyer International Sprint.
