River Wonders

River Wonders is Asia’s first and currently the only river-themed ecological park. It opened its doors on April 3, 2013, attracting 1,500 visitors on its first day of opening and has since become one of Singapore’s newest and most appealing tourist destinations.

Spanning 12 hectares, River Wonders showcases native species from eight iconic river habitats around the world, featuring a diverse array of plant and terrestrial animal species. The park’s eight themed zones are centered around rivers, including the Mississippi River in North America, the Amazon River in South America, the Congo and Nile Rivers in Africa, the Ganges River in South Asia, the Mekong River in Southeast Asia, the Yangtze River in China, and the Murray River in Australia. These zones display rare species inhabiting these freshwater river basins. River Wonders is the only park in Asia where visitors can see giant otters—one specimen on display measures an impressive 1.8 meters, captivating many young visitors. The park’s biggest highlights are two giant pandas from China—Kai Kai and Jia Jia—who reside in the Yangtze River zone and are especially popular with children. In the Murray River and Mekong River zones, visitors may also spot endangered species such as the Australian bass and the Mekong giant catfish.

With a river theme, visitors can not only explore the eight zones along winding pathways but also take boat rides to get up close with wildlife and observe animals such as flamingos, Brazilian tapirs, and jaguars.
