Highlights    The largest Buddhist temple on Phuket, and the Golden Buddha Hall is a major attraction.    Introduction    Wat Chalong is the largest Buddhist temple on Phuket, located in Chalong Bay in the central-southern part of the island. The temple houses statues of two highly respected monks, one of whom, Luang Pho Chuang, was the abbot of the temple in the early 20th century. He was renowned for his bone-setting skills and was honored with the title of “Special Saint.” Among the temples in Phuket, this one has the most active worship, and the Golden Buddha Hall, which enshrines 108 golden Buddhas, is particularly impressive.

Tip: Due to legal restrictions, and the fact that setting off firecrackers is generally not practiced in Thai temples, Phuket is the only exception in the country. Thanks to the large Chinese immigrant population, firecrackers can only be heard during festivals and holidays in Phuket, and Wat Chalong is one of the temples where locals are allowed to set them off.    Food/Accommodation/Shopping    Food is sold within the temple.    Transportation    It is 8 kilometers from Phuket Town, a 25-minute drive.
