Asia’s Largest Motorcycle Event: Phuket Bike Week Kicks Off on April 14

The 19th annual Phuket Heavy Motorcycle Festival in 2013 is set to take place from April 14 to 21. This year’s event will be held on Patong Beach in Phuket, featuring a 2013 Phuket Motorcycle Expo, sand sculpture competitions, performances by the Royal Thai Navy, music festivals, and more. It is expected to attract over 5,000 participants and 30,000 visitors from 26 countries, making it Asia’s largest motorcycle gathering. Coinciding with Thailand’s famous Songkran Water Festival, visitors traveling to Phuket this year can enjoy both the local festivities and the unique heavy motorcycle celebration.

The 2013 Phuket Heavy Motorcycle Festival (PBW) will kick off at 1:00 PM on April 14 with the 2013 Phuket Motorcycle Expo. In addition to the motorcycle expo, American car displays, and music events, the festival will also feature beach parties, the Phuket Bike Week Miss Election, a cowboy night party, tattoo competitions, and classic motorcycle shows. Furthermore, as the event coincides with the Thai New Year, the famous Songkran Water Festival will also take place during this period. Visitors will not only be able to join the grand motorcycle celebration but also experience traditional Phuket rituals such as pouring water on Buddha statues for blessings, making merit by offering food to monks, and participate in bartender competitions. There will also be various musical performances and opportunities to sample local cuisine.

This year, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has partnered with World Travel Service. In addition to the travel agency’s offer of 3,000 THB off for the second person when traveling in pairs, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is adding an extra incentive: anyone who purchases a Thailand package at the World Travel Service booth during the Taichung Travel Fair from May 19 to 22 will be among the first 300 to receive a 1,000 THB travel subsidy.
