Introduction Kata Beach is considerably smaller than Patong and Karon, but it features two beautiful bays shaped like a “W.” The two beaches are affectionately nicknamed “Big Kata” and “Little Kata” by locals. There is also a small coral reef in the northern part of Kata Beach, which is suitable for diving; as night falls on Kata Beach, you’ll easily find both the northern and southern ends immersed in the neon lights of bars. Food / Accommodation / Shopping There are many small restaurants on Karon Beach serving a variety of local dishes and fresh seafood. Dining at restaurants atop the mountain inland a few kilometers away also allows you to enjoy stunning seaside sunsets.

The southern end of Kata Beach is a bar street, most famously home to Ska Bar and The After Beach Bar. It holds strong appeal for visitors who prioritize a more relaxed bar atmosphere. Compared to the rowdier bars on other beaches, these are quieter, with relatively milder-tasting drinks and more laid-back background music. If you’re looking to drink heavily, make noise, watch live band shows and various performances, then the more suitable spots on Kata are limited to a few bars at the northern end. One of the more well-known ones is Kata Night Bazaar.
