Chumunjin Beach

Chumunjin Beach is located at the northernmost tip of Gangneung City, with shallow waters that are perfect for family vacations. The beach has a gentle slope, crystal-clear water where you can find clams, and nearby lakes ideal for fishing. Its proximity to Chumunjin Port means you can enjoy fresh seafood at low prices. Chumunjin Beach is not very large but is renowned for its beautiful sandy beach and blue waters. The pine forests behind the beach also offer great opportunities for camping.

Near the beach lies the scenic Wuling Stream, where a waterfall cascades down a cliff, creating a tranquil environment perfect for a rest. It is named after China’s Peach Blossom Spring in Wuling for its resemblance.

In addition, there is Geumgang Temple built in 1964, and Mess Hall Rock, named for the way people gather around to eat. Don’t miss the Nine Dragon Waterfalls, made up of nine falls of varying sizes, and Little Diamond Mountain, a miniature version of Mount Geumgang known for its stunning scenery.

There is also Son Rock, said to help with fertility, and the dark, uniquely shaped rocks around the beach, offering additional sights for visitors.

Transportation: 1. Walk 2–3 minutes to the right of Gangneung Station to reach the bus terminal, where you can take city bus No. 300 (40 minutes) or No. 302 (50 minutes) bound for Chumunjin, and get off at Chumunjin Beach (buses run every 10 minutes). 2. From the city bus terminal opposite Gangneung Express Bus Terminal, take bus No. 302 or No. 315 (40 minutes). 3. A taxi from Gangneung Station to Chumunjin takes about 20 minutes.
