Jeju Fixed Hunting Ground is the only fixed hunting ground in South Korea, open from November 1 to the end of February each year. Hunting grounds in Korea are divided into two types: fixed and rotating. The latter operates on a yearly rotational basis across four regions—Gangwon-do, Gyeongsang-do, Jeolla-do, and Chungcheong-do. The former is a designated area where hunting takes place. Examples include Chuncheon Provincial Hunting Ground in Gangwon-do, Jeju Hunting Ground in Jeju-do, and Dayou Land. Thanks to its rugged Mount Halla, Jeju-do has long been rich in game such as wild boar, roe deer, pheasant, badger, and wild rabbit. To this day, nearly half of Jeju Island remains designated as hunting grounds. Hunting is an ideal winter sport. The thrill and tension experienced in the bitter cold can help relieve work-related stress. In Jeju-do, areas available for hunting span 806.4 square kilometers. Except for protected zones within Hallasan National Park, fully protected areas, urban planning zones, cultural heritage protection sites, and areas within 100 meters of roads, hunting is permitted elsewhere. The hunting fee per person ranges from 100,000 KRW (for 3 days) to 600,000 KRW (for 120 days), or from 30,000 KRW (for 3 days) to 120,000 KRW (for 120 days). In the fixed hunting ground, the daily bag limit per person includes three male pheasants, crows, ducks, and magpies each, one wild pigeon, and an unlimited number of sparrows. Unfortunately, those without a hunting license cannot enjoy hunting here. Only licensed professional hunters may hunt in the area. Hunters must fax their hunting license and proof of insurance to the hunting ground before they can begin. This permit must be carried during the hunt. It must be returned to the nearest police station after use and is only valid during hunting hours (6:00–22:00). A vehicle is essential for hunting, as it allows movement across vast areas. Most foreign or out-of-town visitors rent vehicles from the fixed hunting ground for this purpose. Geographic Location
