Seongbansan

Seongbansan is one of the parasitic volcanoes on Jeju Island. A parasitic volcano refers to a small volcano formed by new lava eruptions on the mountainside or foothills of a larger volcano. There are more than 350 parasitic volcanoes on Jeju Island, centered around Hallasan Mountain. Seongbansan stands at 1,215 meters and is located at the border between Chodang-ri, Asan-eup, North Jeju County, and Nampyeon-ri, Namwon-eup, South Jeju County. The formation of Seongbansan is due to the vertical cliffs around its southwestern area, which rise like a screen and encircle the mountain for about 500 meters, resembling a wooden board standing as a city wall—hence the name Seongbansan, meaning “City Wall Peak.” Inside Seongbansan lies dense primeval forest, offering unique scenery throughout all four seasons. While the path at the mountain’s base is clear and relatively wide, it is somewhat difficult to walk on due to the abundance of rocks. In spring, the area is covered in blooming azaleas, transforming into a sea of pink, complemented by crystal-clear waterfall waters, creating an exceptionally pleasant landscape.

Transportation 1. From Jeju Suburban Bus Terminal (+82-64-753-1153 (Korean)), take a bus to Seongbansan and get off at the Seongbansan entrance. 2. At the Route 516 Bus Stop (+82-64-762-4345 (Korean)), take a suburban bus bound for Seongbansan and get off at the Seongbansan entrance.
