Jeju Folklore & Natural History Museum

The Jeju Folklore & Natural History Museum is located in Ildo 2-dong, Jeju City, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, South Korea. It is a museum dedicated to investigating, researching, and collecting traditional folk artifacts and related natural materials from Jeju Island. The museum officially opened to the public in 1984. With a total floor space of about 31,515 square meters, the exhibition rooms feature dioramas showcasing various rituals throughout the lives of the Jeju people, as well as materials related to their clothing, food, housing, transportation, and industries. At the same time, the exhibits present the formation process of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, geological rocks, marine life, animals, and plants in an ecological manner, allowing visitors to easily understand both the natural and cultural heritage of Jeju.

The Jeju Folklore & Natural History Museum consists of four areas: the Natural History Exhibition Hall, the First Folklore Exhibition Hall, the Second Folklore Exhibition Hall, and the Outdoor Exhibition Area. The Natural History Exhibition Hall is further divided into the Marine Life Ecology Hall, Geological Rock Exhibition Room, and Terrestrial Ecology Hall, displaying dioramas of the marine life, geological rocks, and flora and fauna of Jeju Province. The First and Second Folklore Exhibition Halls introduce various types of housing on Jeju Island through residential models, traditional food displays, and actual tools used by Jeju haenyeo (female divers) and in agricultural life. Lastly, the Outdoor Exhibition Area displays over 100 items including household utensils for grain processing and religious artifacts.
