Banpo Bridge

Banpo Bridge is a bridge located in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, connecting Seobinggo-dong in Yongsan District on one side of the Han River and Banpo-dong in Seocho District on the other. The construction of the bridge began in January 1980 and was completed on June 25, 1982. It was the first two-tiered bridge in South Korea.

Banpo Bridge is one of the key projects under Seoul’s “Han River Renaissance” initiative. Its opening not only significantly alleviated cross-river traffic pressure but also became a new iconic landmark in Seoul. The bridge spans approximately 1.2 kilometers in length, and its expansion project was completed on December 14, 2008. In addition to widening the bridge deck, the expansion included the installation of a long row of water fountains (known as the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain) along both sides of the bridge, making it the world’s longest fountain bridge according to the Guinness World Records.

The design concept of the Banpo Bridge Moonlight Rainbow Fountain is highly innovative, offering different aesthetic experiences during the day and at night. The fountain can spray up to 190 tons of water per minute. During the day, as the water flow changes, it presents over 100 shapes such as willow leaves and catkins, creating a dazzling array of forms. At night, the fountain transforms again, draped in rainbow-colored lights that symbolize vitality and hope. With more than 200 colorful lights dancing to the rhythm of music, the fountain weaves a constantly changing, magical spectacle of seven colors across the night sky, immersing visitors in its beauty and making them reluctant to leave.
