Ota City

Ota City is located in the northern part of the Kantō region of Japan, in the southeastern part of Gunma Prefecture. It is the largest industrial city in North Kantō and was designated as a Special City in 2007. The city is one of the few in Gunma Prefecture where industry, agriculture, and commerce develop in harmony. Its industry is dominated by the transport machinery sector, and major factories of well-known Japanese companies such as Sanyo Electric, Fuji Heavy Industries, and Sanyo Electric are located here.

Ota City has a long history and numerous cultural heritage sites, among which the ruins of Kanayama Castle, Ippin Shrine, Chorakuji Temple, Taikoan Hermitage, Toshogu Shrine, Daisenji Sarutahiko Shrine, and the Ota City Ushio Shunpei Art Museum are renowned nationwide. The 19-hectare Ota City Northern Sports Park features approximately 300 cherry blossom, shibazakura, and nemophila flowers blooming competitively on about 4.6 hectares of hillsides every spring, followed by 32,000 azalea blooms, creating a truly enchanting scene.

In Ota, there are several traditional festivals held throughout the year, including the New Year’s Jōshū Ota Seven Lucky Gods Pilgrimage, the Ota Summer Festival, the Azalea Exhibition, the Fireworks Festival, and the Kanto Chrysanthemum Exhibition Jazz Festival.
