Kakamigahara City

Kakamigahara City is a city in southern Gifu Prefecture, Japan, with the Kiso River to the south. In recent years, it has rapidly developed due to the presence of the Gifu Air Field. With few fields and many factories, it is a well-known industrial city, home to the base of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, as well as aircraft factories of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Kawasaki Heavy Industries. It is also a production area for carrots and moroheiya radishes (very long radishes).

Kakamigahara City boasts numerous large parks and is planned to be developed as a "park city." In 2005, it was awarded the "Green City Award." Historical sites in the city include Heguriyama Kofun, Matsukura Castle, Wataritoge Castle, Mitsui Castle, Ikuyama Castle, Shōshōji Temple, Hōfukuji Temple, Kanayama Temple, Tegatayama Shrine, Kasagi Shrine, Murakuni Shrine, Miyo Shrine, and Hachiman Shrine. Museums, exhibition centers, and aquariums worth visiting include the Kakamigahara Aerospace Science Museum, the World Freshwater Aquarium, and the Kakamigahara City History and Folklore Museum.
