Kasama Inari Shrine

Also known as Kuri-shita Inari or Monosaburo Inari, Kasama Inari Shrine is located in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and enshrines Ukanomitama-no-Kami. Its annual festival is held on April 9. It is said to have been founded in the second year of the Hakuchi era (661), and together with Fushimi Inari Taisha in ancient Kyoto—the head shrine of all Inari shrines—and Yutoku Inari Shrine in Saga Prefecture, it is counted among Japan’s three great Inari shrines.

Kasama Inari Shrine is an ancient shrine with a history of over 1,350 years. The grounds are filled with a variety of flowers and trees, and in spring and summer, the beautiful blooms complement the historic buildings, creating an elegant and tranquil atmosphere. It is one of the most famous sightseeing spots in Kasama City. Moreover, the shrine enshrines Ukanomitama-no-Kami, the deity of bountiful harvests, prosperous fisheries, successful business, and traffic safety—essentially a god of grains, food, and wealth. Every year, it attracts around 3.5 million worshippers.
