Kochia Hill

Although the name "Kochia Hill" contains the word "hill," it cannot be defined as the towering mountains we usually see. It is actually a small hill made famous by the kochia plant, located in Hitachi Seaside Park in Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, and has become one of Japan's most well-known floral hills.

Kochia is an annual upright herbaceous flowering plant, standing 50-100 centimeters tall. The plant is tender green in color, with leaves turning red in autumn. Its flowering period is from September to October each year, but the flowers are extremely sparse. People love to admire its red foliage the most. Perhaps a single red kochia plant might not stand out, but thousands of them create an absolutely breathtaking sight — they turn red like a sea of fire, leaving visitors in awe. Kochia Hill has become the most eye-catching and rare red landscape in Hitachi Seaside Park. Many visitors walk up the path to the top of the hill to enjoy the full spectrum of colors across the entire park.
