Kisshoyo Onsen

Kisshoyo Onsen is located upstream of the Natori-gawa River in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. It can be described as a "hot spring resort in the suburbs of Sendai." The spring water is a sodium-calcium chloride type, which is said to have certain therapeutic effects on rheumatism, neuralgia, wounds, skin diseases, anemia, and gynecological conditions.

Legend has it that Kisshoyo Onsen was developed during the reign of Emperor Kinmei (531–571). At that time, the emperor, who was suffering from smallpox, had the hot spring water brought to the capital. After soaking in it several times, his condition reportedly disappeared completely, prompting him to order the development of the hot spring site. The term "yu" means hot spring in Japanese. In ancient times, Kisshoyo Onsen was often referred to as "Natori no Gyoyu" (Natori Imperial Hot Spring) and, along with Arima and Dogo Onsen, formed the "Three Great Imperial Hot Springs of Japan." During the feudal domain era, it also featured a dedicated hot spring bath for the Date family (a prominent samurai clan).

Kisshoyo Onsen enjoys convenient transportation and is surrounded by abundant tourist resources. It is close to popular attractions such as Rairai Gorge, Akiu Craft Village, and Tenshukaku Castle Tower Park. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery and then relax in the hot springs of Kisshoyo, making for a very pleasant experience.
