Sakanoue Onsen

Sakanoue Onsen is located on the upper reaches of the Hirose-gawa River, about 25 kilometers northwest of Sendai City in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. With a history of around 1,300 years, it is one of the most renowned ancient hot springs in northeastern Japan. The onsen area is equipped with large hotels and a variety of ryokan, offering very complete service facilities. Moreover, the surrounding area boasts many rare plants, making the scenery extremely beautiful.

The spring quality of Sakanoue Onsen is classified as simple spring and salt-soda spring, which has certain therapeutic effects on gastrointestinal diseases, skin diseases, gynecological conditions, rheumatism, as well as athlete's foot and burns. This hot spring was first discovered and developed by the monk Gyouki in 721 AD. After more than a thousand years of continuous development, it has become one of the most famous hot springs in Japan. There are multiple outdoor riverside baths in the onsen area, especially renowned for its open-air hot springs.
