National Agricultural Exhibition Center
Destination Introduction
The National Agricultural Exhibition Center is located in Sanlitun, Chaoyang District. It covers an area of over 600,000 square meters, with a building area of 25,500 square meters. Centered around a majestic pavilion-style main hall, the complex is interconnected by corridors and tree-lined boulevards, featuring a rigorous layout and rich ethnic architectural style.
As one of the Ten Great Buildings of the capital, the location, scale, layout, and style of the National Agricultural Exhibition Center were all personally reviewed and approved by the Premier. After its official completion in 1959, it hosted the first large-scale national exhibition since the founding of the People’s Republic—the National Agricultural Achievements Exhibition for the 10th Anniversary of the Founding of the Nation—pioneering nearly 40 years of exhibition history in Beijing. Since then, the National Agricultural Exhibition Center has gained fame across the capital and attracted worldwide attention.
The exhibition center is situated on the east side of Nongzhan Bridge on North East Third Ring Road in Beijing, boasting a prime location often referred to as the “Dragon’s Eye” of the capital—a place said to have excellent “feng shui” and vitality. Its transportation is extremely convenient, with easy access in all directions, unlike other exhibition venues that commonly face traffic restrictions. Driving from the venue to Beijing Capital International Airport takes only 20 minutes. Located in Beijing’s bustling international business district and just a street away from foreign embassies, the center is surrounded within a 2-kilometer radius by over 200 star-rated hotels, office buildings, and fitness centers, including the Great Wall Hotel, Kunlun Hotel, and Yansha Friendship Shopping Mall. This area is one of the fastest-growing economic zones in Beijing, offering excellent accommodation and dining options. The unique community environment and outstanding reputation ensure that exhibitions held here attract large crowds of domestic and international merchants, creating a lively atmosphere and achieving remarkable results. For example, the National Clothing Exhibition in the 1980s once received up to 100,000 visitors daily, setting a historical record for attendance. In the early 1990s when China’s auto market was extremely sluggish, the car self-selection market at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center unexpectedly boomed, causing a sensation in Beijing and nationwide. The overwhelming demand far exceeded supply, catching the organizers off guard and briefly putting them in a difficult position.
Through decades of exhibition experience, the National Agricultural Exhibition Center has cultivated a comprehensive, well-disciplined, and highly skilled professional technical team. It is the only institution in the country capable of providing “one-stop” services for exhibitions. The center can undertake a wide range of services including exhibition planning, content editing, design and decoration, processing and production, advertising and promotion, lighting and graphics, sand table models, photography and videography, photo printing, cultural relic replication, specimen making, as well as mechanical and electrical and building maintenance. These services are known for their high credibility, quality focus, speed, and simplified procedures.
The cost of hosting exhibitions at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center is 5%–10% lower than at other exhibition venues in Beijing. The ability to compete in the market with lower operating costs and exhibition pricing is due to gradual internal reforms in response to market competition, which have nurtured a group of management professionals and staff skilled in operations and technology. The combination of affordable prices, high-quality service, and excellent facilities has made the center increasingly popular among both new and returning clients, gradually establishing it as the preferred venue for hosting various exhibitions.
Since its establishment, the National Agricultural Exhibition Center has built relationships with many exhibition clients and has a large group of long-time supporters who are passionate about the exhibition industry. The center honors its longstanding partners while also actively seeking new ones. Led by the center, an independent and comprehensive exhibition association has over 2,000 members across 31 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, forming the largest exhibition network in the country. The Agricultural Industry Branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade was fully integrated into the National Agricultural Exhibition Center, opening up new channels for recruiting exhibitors and attracting business for large international exhibitions, thereby creating favorable conditions for Chinese enterprises to enter the global market. The center actively develops exchanges and cooperation with the global exhibition industry, having organized nearly 200 overseas exhibitions with footprints in over 80 countries and regions. It has established friendly cooperative relations with events such as the Verona Fair in Italy and Germany’s Green Week Food Exhibition, as well as broad connections with other internationally renowned exhibition centers and companies. This plays an increasingly important role in promoting exchanges between China and other countries in agriculture, industry, science and education, commerce, culture, and other sectors.
Over the past forty-plus years, especially since the reform and opening-up, the National Agricultural Exhibition Center has remained exhibition-focused, organizing more than 800 international and national exhibitions through various formats including self-organized, jointly organized, and venue rental. These exhibitions span fields such as mechanical engineering, computer networks, automotive industry, printing and packaging, electricity, pets and pet products, light industry, coal, aviation, environmental protection, petrochemicals, rubber, textiles, building materials, medical care, and security. The sheer number of exhibitions, breadth of industries covered, and significant social impact are unmatched by any other exhibition venue in Beijing, earning the center a high reputation in the domestic and international exhibition communities. Looking back at four decades of Beijing’s exhibition history, it is clear that the National Agricultural Exhibition Center hosted the first national exhibition, the first overseas exhibition, established the first sister-exhibition relationship with a foreign exhibition venue, and organized the first trade fair. It also set a record with a single self-organized exhibition generating 500 million yuan in trade negotiations.
The National Agricultural Exhibition Center is further deepening reforms, strengthening management, standardizing services, and accelerating venue upgrades. It continuously improves exhibition conditions and strives to provide more convenient and higher-quality services for domestic and international users. The goal is to build a modern exhibition center that is beautifully landscaped, large-scale, well-equipped, fully functional, scientifically managed, and offers top-tier service.
The National Agricultural Exhibition Center is truly the exhibition holy land of Beijing, worthy of being called the “Jerusalem” or “Mecca” of the exhibition industry.
