Nara Prefectural Folk Museum

The Nara Prefectural Folk Museum is located at the eastern foot of Yadayama Hills within the Nara Folk Park in Yamatokōriyama, northern Nara Prefecture. Themed around introducing the way of life in Nara Prefecture in the past, it is one of the renowned attractions in Yamatokōriyama. Foreign visitors can enter the museum for free upon presenting their passport.

The folk museum preserves and exhibits tools and daily necessities once used in agriculture and forestry in Nara Prefecture. Through these physical displays, visitors can experience the rural and forestry life of that era. The museum also houses a wealth of video materials related to the customs, traditions, and arts of Nara during the Yamato period. By watching these videos, visitors can easily gain insight into the cultural life of Nara in that time.

The Nara Folk Park, where the Nara Prefectural Folk Museum is located, is also a park themed around introducing the cultural life of Nara’s past. The park not only reconstructs Edo-period residences collected from various parts of Nara Prefecture but also plants 150 plum trees, 13,000 irises, as well as various flowers and trees such as cherry blossoms, azaleas, hydrangeas, and camellias. It is picturesque all year round.
