Organized by the Rakuten Travel booking website, the "Rakuten Travel Breakfast Festival" has entered its seventh edition. Based on votes from Japanese netizens and guest reviews, the first phase selected the top breakfast from each of Japan’s 47 prefectures out of 1,500 entries submitted by hotels.

To compete for the final crown, chefs showcased their creativity, going beyond traditional breakfast concepts. Not only were the ingredients luxurious, but the dishes ranged from quintessential Japanese flavors to fusion styles. Following the second phase of tasting evaluations, the ultimate champion breakfast of 2016 in Japan will be selected in the year-end finals.
