Nara City

Nara City is located in central Japan, in the northern part of Nara Prefecture. It is a historically renowned city, serving as the capital of Nara Prefecture and the prefecture’s largest city. This uniquely charming city is a cultural ancient capital that has accumulated a thousand years of history and is known as the "Rome of the East."

The Japanese call Nara the "spiritual homeland" and the "eastern terminus of the Silk Road." The city offers many unique experiences that can only be found in the ancient capital of Nara, making it an internationally renowned tourist destination. Wakakusa, the Shuni-e water-drawing ceremony at Todai-ji Temple, the Kamo Kyoen Festival at Kasuga Wakamiya Shrine, and the Lantern Festival at Kasuga Taisha Shrine are all historic traditional celebrations. Today, as part of Nara City’s tourist attractions, these events draw countless visitors every year.

Nara’s traditional crafts are not only diverse but also deeply rooted in local characteristics, making them highly valuable for viewing and collecting. Items such as Aka-raku pottery, Ichiboku-zukuri dolls, Nara brushes, Nara ink, and Tsuno-zukuri craftwork are especially famous.
