In Yamatokoriyama, various flowers bloom in every season, displaying a wonderful diversity — a city where the changes of the seasons are marked by its blossoms. The iconic scenery of Yamatokoriyama features the castle and cherry blossoms. The ruins of Koriyama Castle still retain stone walls dating back about 400 years. Every spring, many visitors come for the “Castle Festival” held when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, where the blossoms burst into vivid color against the backdrop of the old castle site. After the cherry blossom season, as fresh green foliage emerges, the azaleas at Jimyo-in Temple begin to flower. At Matsunoo-ji Temple, famous for warding off misfortune, the rose garden opens to the public from May to June. In the depths of winter, after the New Year, elegant red and white plum blossoms bloom on the plum trees. In addition, various cultural heritage sites and traditional crafts continue to be preserved and passed down.
