Confucius Temple

Introduction   The Confucius Temple is located in Ōura, Nagasaki, and is the only Confucius Temple built by Chinese people outside of China.

The layout of the temple is the same as that of Confucius Temples in China. The main hall features a yellow glazed tile roof and white marble railings, exuding grandeur. The Dacheng Hall enshrines a statue of Confucius and plaques of the Four Sages, with large stone sculptures of Confucius’ seventy-two disciples on both sides, each about 1.8 meters tall and weighing two tons, all modeled entirely according to the painting manual of Li Gonglin.

The full set of ritual vessels in the main hall are replicas of those in the Confucius Temple in Qufu. On the three-story building behind the temple, there is also a “Chinese History Museum” that displays ancient Chinese relics provided by the Chinese History Museum.
