Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum

The Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum is located in Kamifukawa-chō, Naka Ward, Hiroshima City. Visitors can easily reach it by taking a tram from Hiroshima Station and getting off at the “Shukkeien-mae” stop, making it highly accessible. Established in 1968 and renovated in 1996, the museum offers a more comfortable visiting environment along with a more comprehensive collection and exhibitions to welcome every visitor.

The Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum houses a collection of over 4,500 precious artworks, including many pieces related to Hiroshima by renowned artists such as Ai Kō, Mitsuzō Maruoka, and Hiroshi Hirayama. There are also folk art works represented by Kawai Kanjirō and Shōji Hamada, as well as craft pieces from Japan and Asia, featuring Central Asian textiles and metalwork. These artworks are displayed through around four rotating exhibitions each year, and every day, volunteers from the Friends of the Museum provide easy-to-understand guided tours, helping visitors gain deeper insights into the background and characteristics of the exhibits.

In addition to viewing artworks, the museum’s special exhibition rooms host up to six special exhibitions per year, accompanied by numerous lectures, concerts, and other events, creating a lively atmosphere.
