Hiroshima City Yakeyama Meteorological Observatory is situated within Yakeyama Park in Yakeyama district, Naka Ward, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. It is the first museum in Japan dedicated to the theme of “meteorology.” Established in Heisei 4 (1992), the building preserves and renovates the former site of the Hiroshima Local Meteorological Observatory, which was originally built in Showa 9 (1934) and was also hit by the atomic bomb.

The Hiroshima City Yakeyama Meteorological Observatory displays a wealth of meteorological materials and artifacts, some of which allow visitors to experience them firsthand. For example, in the “Gust Sealing Chamber,” visitors can experience the power of wind, and in the “Typhoon Box,” they feel as if they have entered a typhoon or cloud—offering thrilling and engaging experiences that educate visitors about weather while having fun. Additionally, the observatory often hosts science exhibitions and research seminars on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, allowing visitors to learn a lot about meteorology on-site.
