Hiroshima City Local History Museum

The Hiroshima City Local History Museum is located in Ujina-Yukari, Minami Ward, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. Visitors can reach it by taking a Hiroshima Electric Railway train bound for Hiroshima Port from Hiroshima Station and getting off at “Ujina 2-chome,” then walking about 300 meters west. Established in May 1985 (Showa 60), it is a must-visit place to learn about modern Hiroshima, receiving large numbers of domestic and international visitors every day.

The Hiroshima City Local History Museum is a red-brick cultural museum focused on Hiroshima’s traditional local industries. It preserves parts of the old Army Provision Supply Factory built in Meiji 44 (1911), and showcases the history of Ujina Port, Hiroshima, and the daily life customs of people at that time, offering visitors an immersive experience back in that era. As one of the few well-preserved examples of Western-style architecture, construction techniques, and elegant design from the Meiji modern period in the city, the museum is extremely valuable and has been designated as an Important Tangible Cultural Property of Hiroshima City.
