Hiroshima City Manga Library

The Hiroshima City Manga Library is located in Hijiyama Park in Naka Ward, Hiroshima City, Japan. Visitors can reach it by taking the Hiroden Tram Line 5 from Hiroshima Station and getting off at “Hijiyamashita,” then walking for 10 minutes. Its predecessor was the Aozora Library, established in Showa 58 (1983), and in 1997 it became the Hiroshima City Manga Library.

As of March 2009, the Hiroshima City Manga Library had collected and organized 98,700 manga volumes and related reference materials, making it one of the largest manga libraries in Hiroshima and even Japan. Here, visitors can explore the history of manga and enjoy its immense entertainment value by reading and borrowing representative manga titles, manga magazines, and a wealth of materials for manga research. Additionally, visitors can participate in various exhibitions, lectures, and other events aimed at promoting manga culture, meet fellow manga enthusiasts, and interact with well-known manga artists. Moreover, the library has hosted the “Fun Annual Manga Contest” since Heisei 10 (1998), which welcomes both professionals and amateurs and is highly popular among people from all walks of life.
