Fukuyama City

Fukuyama City is located in the central-southern part of the Chūgoku region in western Japan, at the southeastern tip of Hiroshima Prefecture. It is the fifth most populous city in the Chūgoku–Shikoku region after Hiroshima City, Okayama City, Matsuyama City, and Kurashiki City. With its warm climate and predominantly sunny weather, it is an easy place to live.

Fukuyama is a beautiful city that gathers the history and culture of the Seto Inland Sea, boasts bright scenery and the fragrance of roses. Most of its tourist attractions are concentrated around Fukuyama Castle in the north of JR Fukuyama Station, the city’s gateway. This area features art galleries, museums, literature museums, and uniquely individual museums that are rare throughout Japan. Heading south from Fukuyama Station, you’ll find “Tomonoura,” a representative scenic spot of Japan’s first designated national park, “Setonaikai National Park.” The islands floating on the tranquil Seto Inland Sea form a picturesque scene. Other must-visit sites include Banpō-ji Temple, Fukuyama Castle, Myōō-in Five-Story Pagoda, Hōsen-ji Temple, and Fukuyama Hachimangū Shrine.

From May to October each year, around 500,000 city flowers—“roses”—bloom vigorously centered around Rose Park, adding vibrant colors to the streets of Fukuyama City.
