Introduction

Tokyo National Museum is Japan’s largest museum, located at the northern end of Ueno Park in Taito, Tokyo. It was established in the 4th year of the Meiji era (1871), and its current buildings were completed in 1938. It consists of a two-story building in traditional Japanese architectural style, with the Toyokan on the left, the Hyokeikan on the right, and the Horyuji Homotsukan near the main gate, totaling 43 exhibition rooms. The museum houses over 100,000 Japanese historical artifacts and fine art pieces, including 70 designated as national treasures. The exhibits are categorized into sculpture, textiles, metalwork, arms and armor, swords, ceramics, architecture, paintings, lacquerware, and calligraphy, reflecting the cultural arts and daily life of Japan through various periods.
