Destination Introduction

Nangexia Po Mosque is one of the mosques in Beijing, located at Nangexia Po outside Chaoyangmen. It was built during the Guangxu period through funds raised by local Hui people. The main hall spans 132 square meters, and the north and south side halls together occupy 68 square meters, accompanied by north and south wing rooms. It underwent renovation and repainting in 1986. With a history of over three hundred years, it is one of only seven ancient mosques that remain in the Chaowai area. It features unique characteristics among historic architecture. This mosque has long been used for worship by local Hui residents and also serves as the Beijing Hui Funeral Management Office.

Architectural Style: After several renovations, Nangexia Po Mosque has organically integrated traditional Chinese palace-style architectural art with Arabic Islamic architectural techniques, exuding an artistic blend of Islamic culture and traditional Chinese culture. The current Nangexia Po Mosque is solemn and dignified, featuring a red gate, with a large green dome at the center of the entrance hall’s ceiling, atop which stands a crescent moon symbol that represents the identity of Islam.
