Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Currumbin on the Gold Coast. Established in 1947, it covers an area of 27 hectares and is one of Australia’s best wildlife parks, renowned for allowing visitors to feed rainbow lorikeets.

The park is covered with eucalyptus trees and rainforest, creating favorable conditions for the animals. One of the main attractions is the wild rainbow lorikeets, which visit the park twice daily—around 8:30 am and 4 pm. They fly onto visitors’ shoulders and hands to eat the food offered. The sanctuary also offers informative sessions on cold-blooded and reptilian species, as well as opportunities to take photos with adorable animals. Children are often brave enough to have snakes draped around their necks or carried on their shoulders.

There are regularly scheduled animal shows, such as the Wild Animal Encounter Show, which runs twice a day. Visitors can see common Australian wildlife as well as unique native species like dingoes, sugar gliders, and reptiles. The Free Flight Bird Show takes place once in the morning and once in the afternoon, where staff introduce different bird species and allow them to fly overhead, giving guests the thrilling experience of eagles, kites, and owls swooping past. In addition to animal shows, there are also Aboriginal music and dance performances: a spectacular Aboriginal show is held every morning, and in the afternoon, visitors can join traditional Aboriginal song and dance celebrations to fully experience Australia’s unique Indigenous music and dance culture.

The most interesting experience is exploring the nocturnal side of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary after a picnic or barbecue in the evening, spotting wild night animals and learning about their habits and habitats.
