The Gold Coast Marathon will take place on July 5 and 6, and earlier this year, it was just awarded the Road Race Gold Label certification by World Athletics (formerly IAAF), meaning this event has become one of the world’s top road races.
The Gold Coast Marathon is the first marathon event in Australia and even Oceania to receive this honor. With this recognition, the Gold Coast Marathon joins the ranks of world-class marathons, alongside the New York Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, and Berlin Marathon. This marks the second time the Gold Coast Marathon has been affirmed by World Athletics, following its Bronze Label (Road Race Bronze Label) certification in 2013, and also highlights the event’s significance to the development of marathon running in Oceania.
Since its inception in 1979, the Gold Coast Marathon has been held for 35 editions, and this year’s 36th edition will take place on July 5 and 6. Events include a full marathon, half marathon, 10-kilometer run, 5.7-kilometer Challenge Run (run or walk), and 4-kilometer and 2-kilometer family runs. Approximately 30,000 participants are expected. In addition, there will be a series of activities including the ASICS Sports & Lifestyle Expo and banquets. Registration for the Gold Coast Marathon opened on March 18.
