Taiwan’s northern coast is home to the Shimen Laomei Green Stone Trough, the only unique landscape of its kind in the country. Formed by volcanic reef rocks from the eruption of Datun Volcano and shaped over time by relentless wave erosion, this terrain is typically covered in a lush expanse of green algae around April to May each year. Now, the south has a similarly breathtaking landscape akin to the Laomei Green Stone Trough—located at Tainan’s Golden Coast, where the coastal wave-dissipating blocks also sprout a full carpet of green algae around the same season, complemented by what is hailed as one of the most scenic sunset coastlines, creating an absolutely gorgeous view.
