Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek Cultural Center

The Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek Cultural Center is a cultural and educational institution located in Taipei’s Bo'ai Special Zone, Taiwan, China. It manages and operates cultural facilities including the National Theater and Concert Hall (collectively known as “The Two Theaters”), the National Symphony Orchestra, the Performing Arts Review magazine, the Performing Arts Library, as well as the ticketing system for the Two Theaters. It is one of Taiwan’s most important performing arts institutions and also a major landmark in Taipei.

In 1975, following the death of Chiang Kai-shek, then President of the Republic of China, a campaign was launched to raise funds for the construction of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. The government established a preparatory team to build three major structures as memorials: the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, the National Theater, and the National Concert Hall. In April 1980, the first phase of construction—the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall—was completed. On February 1, 1985, the “Preparatory Office for the Operation and Management of the National Theater and Concert Hall” was established and officially began operations. On October 6, 1987, the Two Theaters were fully completed and opened to the public. The managing organization was named the Taiwan Chiang Kai-shek Cultural Center and came under the administration of Taiwan’s Ministry of Education.

The National Concert Hall and the National Theater are located on the left and right sides of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, respectively. They are among the highest-caliber venues in Taiwan for music, drama, dance, and other performing arts events. They frequently host large-scale performances and have received high praise from visitors.
