Dongba Country Park
Dongba Country Park is a national AA-level tourist attraction.
Dongba Country Park is located outside Beijing’s Fifth Ring Road in Chaoyang District, bordered by Kanggezhuang Road to the north, the Second Airport Expressway to the south, Chaoyang New Town to the west, and the Second Airport Expressway to the east.
The park covers an area of 3,008 mu, with planned residential areas primarily surrounding it. It is expected to have a permanent population of 200,000. With superior transportation infrastructure, it is the largest public welfare park invested in by municipal and district governments as part of Beijing’s Park Loop construction project.
Development
The park has planned green environmental zones with main sightseeing areas including Tianqu Garden, Yiqu Garden, and Qingqu Garden. It also features recreational venues such as an Ethnic Culture Square, rest pavilions for the elderly, children’s play squares, fitness and wellness squares, scenic viewing pavilions, log cabins, roller skating rinks, tennis courts, and basketball courts.
The park’s basic supporting facilities reflect a visitor-oriented theme. Facilities such as the park management office, visitor center, convenience store, tea art room, and rain shelters all embody a humanized service philosophy.
The construction of Dongba Country Park provides residents in the Dongba area and surrounding communities with a green ecological space integrating leisure, fitness, and entertainment. It also establishes a new platform for the economic development of the Dongba region.
You can drive around the park.
Transportation: Take bus 686 or 468 to the terminal stop, Chaoyang New Town, then walk east. Alternatively, take buses 350, 750, or 672 and get off at Chaoxin Jiayuan Station, then walk one stop east. For bus 364, get off at Sanchahe Station and walk 100 meters forward.
On weekends, fruit-picking enthusiasts often gather friends to head to the suburbs for some rural fun. However, most picking farms are far from the city, usually offer limited varieties, and tend to be more expensive. Dongba Country Park in Chaoyang District, which has just opened, has about 1,000 mu of fruit trees. Even more surprising, fruit picking here is completely free — something you won’t find at other country parks.
Dongba Country Park is the largest country park in Beijing, covering an area of over 3,000 mu — about three times the size of the Forbidden City. Fruit trees were first planted here in 2000, and the area was previously off-limits to the public. Now, as a country park, it offers free access for both viewing and picking. The park is home to plum, apricot, jujube, peach, cherry, pear, and other fruit trees.
Dongba Country Park is very hard to find. If you take bus 729 or 750 and get off at Dongba Building Materials City, you still need to walk 500 meters south. When asking locals for directions, never mention “Dongba Country Park” — you should ask for the location of the “orchard,” as that’s what locals still call it.
Transportation: Take bus 750 or 729 and get off at Dongba Building Materials City Station, then walk 500 meters south.
Driving route: Take the Second Airport Expressway, exit at Jiaozhuang Village, and the park is located west of the road next to the Red Sun Ecological Park.
