The Beishike Thousand Buddha Caves are part of a series of cave temples along the Mutougou Valley, with the ruins of a temple complex situated near the caves on the western side. A temple was built on the platform in front of the caves, and remnants of murals can still be found in four of the caves, featuring a style very similar to those in the Bezeklik Grottoes. Based on the remaining caves, they are rectangular in shape with vaulted ceilings, exhibiting the architectural legacy of the Gaochang Uyghur period.
