Dizang Temple Scripture Repository

The Dizang Temple Scripture Repository is a cultural relic protection unit in Yinchuan.

Located within the compound at No. 105 Qianjin Street, Xingqing District. Originally called “Dizang Nunnery,” its founding date is unknown. In 1932, it was expanded under the supervision of Feng Yuanguang and renamed “Lay Buddhists’ Forest” after completion in 1935. During the Cultural Revolution, only the Scripture Repository and the wing rooms in the rear courtyard were preserved as factory workshops, while the other buildings were demolished. In 1987, local lay Buddhists raised funds to restore it and it was subsequently named Dizang Temple.

The temple complex consists of a mountain gate, front hall, middle hall, Scripture Repository, and north and south wing rooms. The Scripture Repository is a two-story building with a flush gable roof, standing 12 meters tall overall, with three bays in width and one bay in depth. The first floor houses a statue of Sakyamuni, and a wooden ladder behind the Buddha leads to the second floor, which originally served as the scripture storage area for the temple.

The Dizang Temple Scripture Repository has long served as a religious activity site for lay Buddhists in Yinchuan and is an important physical resource for the study of Buddhism in the city. On April 24, 1993, it was designated as a second batch cultural relic protection unit by the Yinchuan Municipal People’s Government.
