The Yinchuan South Gate Tower is one of the six major city gates of old Yinchuan and the only one that has been preserved to this day. It is also one of Yinchuan’s iconic landmarks. The entire structure features a rigorous design, colorful eaves paintings, red walls, and green-tiled roofs, exuding a grand and majestic aura, and is often referred to as the “Little Tiananmen.”

The location is easily accessible with numerous bus lines and is close to the airport shuttle bus stop and the South Gate Grand Mosque. It remains bustling with people and full of life.

Especially when night falls, many vendors start setting up stalls around the square, selling clothing, barbecue, toys, and more—a dazzling array of goods. Particularly near the specialty barbecue stalls, the air is filled with the rich aroma of grilled meat and seasoned salt.

Around 8 p.m., under the dazzling night view of the South Gate Tower, the area is brightly lit and lively. Young couples stroll and chat, children play around, and elders gather to chat—creating a vibrant, bustling scene. However, those out at night should keep an eye on their belongings, as security could still be improved.
