As one of the most representative ancient, relict, endangered, and rare plants, it is academically recognized as a characteristic genus of Central Asia’s desert regions, and hailed as a “living fossil” of plants and the “panda of the plant world.” Its distribution is extremely limited, with scattered occurrences in parts of Russia and Ukraine worldwide. The only contiguous area where Suoimuo grows densely is found around Mahuanggou at the northernmost tip of Shizuishan District.
