The city is home to 580,000 Hui people, accounting for about 47.2% of the total population. The mosque is the main place where the Hui people perform prayers as well as a public venue for gatherings, holding an important place in the hearts of Muslim communities.

The most famous ones in the urban area include the South Mosque, North Mosque, and Central Mosque. These mosques feature both the bright and distinctive Arabic style and the solemn, traditional, and symmetry-focused characteristics of ancient Chinese architecture. All of them face westward and typically consist of prayer halls, bathing facilities, and minarets. The environment inside the mosques is quiet and elegant, and the prayer halls are spacious and bright, exuding a solemn atmosphere. Nestled within the city and tucked between high-rise buildings, these mosques have become the most distinctive architectural landmarks in Wuzhong, attracting countless visitors.
